The Lure of Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta, just off the western coast of Krabi, is the hottest thing in island holidays these days. This backpacker heaven in the 80s, now definitely an up-market destination, keeps on growing, even defying the trends in the rest of the country and now its 40km of coastline is filled with several four- and five-star resorts that offer great accommodation as well as sports and adventure facilities, especially on Koh Lanta Yai, the biggest island.
Koh Lanta is actually a national park (the 62nd Marine National Park of Thailand) with 81 percent of its boundary marine, with plenty of shallow and deep corals. The entire archipelago is made up of over 50 small islands, but only three are inhabited: Lanta Yai, Lanta Noi, and Koh Ngai. Koh Lanta Yai is the most attractive to tourists because of the impressive beaches and the myriad of activities for visitors.
